Mahaganpati, Ganpatipule

Shree kshetra ganpatipule is considered to be the most famous and leading holy place in entire maharashtra. This beautiful place is situated on the sea coast at a distance of 25 kms from ratnagiri. This pilgrimage is known as the protector deity, a ‘dwar devata’ of india’s western region. It is as if the great silver ocean calms down after touching the feet of the protector, shree mahaganapti. The devotees feel at peace in the evergreen hilly area, after going around the temple (pradakshina). The composition or the structure of this ganesh temple is special. Devotees believe that this ganesh can fulfil all their desires and wishes and they consider him to be the supreme one. During the peshwa rule, shrimant nanasaheb peshwa erected a lamp tower called nandadeep in front of the temple and shrimant bajirao’s brother chimaji appa made arrangements for the nagar khana here. It is also mentioned in the historical documents that shrimant madhavrao peshwe’s wife ramabai had built a ‘dharmashala’ i.e a resting place for the devotees who come all the way travelling long distances.

A lot of devotees come here especially during the occasions of angarki, sankashti and magh festival. Due to the beautification of the gardens and the temple area, this place has become a major attraction for the devotees and tourists. There are many luxurious hotels in this area and you can also easily find an economical home stay accommodation here.
